A Monument of Novi Sad

Hotel Vojvodina is the oldest hotel in Novi Sad. Built in 1854, it stands in the very centre of the city. Throughout its history of more than 150 years, it has always been a gathering place of the city's cultural, social and political life.

Originally named Hotel “Empress Elisabeth”, after the wife of Franz Joseph, it changed its name twice more — first to Hotel “Queen Marija”, after the wife of the Yugoslav king Aleksandar Karađorđević, and it received its present name in 1945, after the Second World War.

Although electric lighting was introduced in the city in 1910, the hotel had it as early as 1899. Its original appearance has remained unchanged since it was built, and as a hospitality landmark it has welcomed many travellers and famous figures of public and cultural life, such as Laza Kostić, Miloš Crnjanski, Lajos Zilahy, Duke Marko Miljanov and Prince Tomislav Karađorđević.
