Our Story
A Monument of Novi Sad
Hotel Vojvodina is the oldest hotel in Novi Sad, built in 1854 and located in the very heart of the city. Throughout its more than 150-year history, it has always been a hub of the city's cultural, social, and political life.
Originally named Hotel Empress Elisabeth, after the wife of Franz Joseph, it changed names twice more — first to Hotel Queen Marija, then to its current name in 1945, after the Second World War.
Although electric lighting was introduced to the city in 1910, the hotel had it as early as 1899. It has kept its original appearance since construction, and has hosted many famous guests, including Laza Kostić, Miloš Crnjanski, Lajos Zilahi, Duke Marko Miljanov, and Prince Tomislav Karađorđević.

Before the Hotel
The site where Hotel Vojvodina now stands was once home to the well-known Johann Hajl brewery, which had existed since the first half of the 18th century. After the brewery was destroyed in the 1849 bombardment, Johann Eigler bought the land and in 1854 completed a late-classicist building fitted with the most luxurious interior of its time.
